Toormina and Sawtell Medical Centres have been a popular choice for GP Registrars, Medical Students and Nursing Students. We are committed to providing an opportunity to all trainees and students to experience exposure to general practice in a supportive and professional environment.
GP Registrars are fully trained doctors undertaking higher specialist qualifications in general practice. We are able to facilitate GP Registrar terms encompassing a strong teaching component and a broad range of clinical medicine in a pleasant working environment. Our doctors are accredited by GP Synergy Training Organisation/RACGP and provide a supportive learning environment for all of our doctors in the specialist program. One of our aims as an accredited training practice is to give registrars a positive experience of rural general practice.
We currently host medical students from the University of NSW. They sit with the supervising doctor during patient consultations; however as a patient you will always be given the choice to have them sit in on your consultation. If you are uncomfortable with a student being present during your consultation please inform your doctor.
We also host nursing students from the local Southern Cross University campus, they are supervised by our team of experienced Registered Nurses and are provided with an opportunity to participate in the nursing procedures conducted at the medical centre.
We are committed to ensuring quality GP services and see ongoing education as a crucial factor in keeping up with the many and frequent changes that occur in general practice.
